They're not that bad. Their biggest flaw was that the injector o-rings were faulty and leaked. That's what started the fires. Anyone with that knowledge and the ability to replace those o-rings had a pretty reliable and fun car to toss around.
One of my old bosses had a Fiero GT that he slapped a turbo on it. It's boosting 8 psi all day long. He runs 12's all day long in the quarter-mile.
